Mysore based Air Force Selection Board is one of the oldest & a major military station in southern part of Karnataka. This defence establishment carved a niche for itself in South India as this is a premier institution for scientifically selecting prospective officers for all the branches, including flying branch / fighter pilots for the Indian Air Force, among the dynamic youth of the country.

Apart from selection duties, Air Force Selection Board also looks after the welfare of ex-servicemen and their dependent family members by running the first and the largest independent Unit Run Canteen (CSD), with majority of ex-servicemen attached to the Air Force’s canteen from Mysore and neighboring districts such as Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar etc.

Air Force Selection Board, Mysore also houses the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme’s (ECHS) Station Headquarters in Mysore, which is directly under the command & control of Air Force Station, Mysore. Hence, all eligible ex-servicemen & widows of ex-servicemen and their dependent family members are totally dependent on Air Force Selection Board for their medical facilities, treatment in Military Hospital / Empanelled Private hospitals, and for reimbursement of authorized medical expenses, as per ECHS.

The strength of Ex-Servicemen in Mysore & neighboring districts is increasing day by day resulting in the increase of dependent ex-servicemen strength on the Air Force Canteen and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme. As such, Air Force Selection Board is confronted with a variety of problems faced, on a daily basis, by the armed forces veterans of yore & their widows, which sometimes the Air Force Selection Board resolves with its intervention.

As it has been the established tradition & practice of the Armed Forces to look after the welfare of ex-servicemen from the Army / Navy / Air Force living in and around a military station, Air Force Station, Mysore is no exception to the tradition and has always been in the forefront in extending a helping hand to resolve the problems of hapless military veterans & their widows whenever they approach the Air Force Selection Board.

In order to further understand the growing problems of ex-servicemen in Mysore and neighboring districts and help them to resolve their issues, Air Force Selection Board, Mysore is conducting a day long ‘Ex-Servicemen Interaction Meet’ in the form of an ‘Ex-servicemen Rally’, for the first time in Mysore, on Sunday, 27.04.2014, in the Air Force Station Campus between 9.30 am and 5.00 pm. This ‘Ex-Servicemen Interaction Meet’ is primarily to give an opportunity to the ex-servicemen and their dependent family members to interact with Air Force authorities at the selection board, to project their various problems, & also to avail the opportunity for health check-up in Station Sick Quarters (SSQ) by medical specialists drawn from the civil & Air Force medical officers posted at Air Force Selection Board, Mysore.

Air Force as a whole is in the knowledge that numerous Ex-servicemen and widows of Ex-Servicemen are yet to become members of the ECHS due to various factors. Some of the factors are ignorance of the existence of a health scheme for Ex-servicemen, the alleged cumbersome procedures for some of the veterans and their widows, difficulty in obtaining the ‘bank certificate’ from their pension disbursing banks with details of their pension & getting an affidavit sworn before a Notary Public as per the ECHS Membership Application format. Advanced age of the eligible applicants / widows, with no one to assist them in filling up the membership forms and completing the formalities, is also one of the major impediments. In order to help the eligible ex-servicemen and widows to become members of ECHS, Air Force Selection Board is organizing a week long ECHS Membership drive from 27.04.2014.

Air Officer Commanding and President of Air Force Selection Board, Mysore, Air Commodore O.P. Tiwari would preside over the occasion and Maj Gen (Retd) SG Vombatkere, VSM, will be the Chief Guest and inaugurate the Ex-Servicemen Interaction Meet & General Health Check-up Camp.

All the eligible Ex-servicemen and widows of ex-servicemen from the Army / Navy / Air Force residing in Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar & Hassan, who are yet to become ECHS members and facing other problems concerning facilities and benefits, by virtue of their past Armed Forces service, may submit their application with full service particulars and a brief narration of their problems, addressed to the Station Commander / Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Selection Board, Mysore, personally, at the venue on 27.04.2014 between 9.30 AM and 11.00 AM.
